Trauma Therapy
An accident, abuse or violence can cause major changes in mental health and behavior. Sometimes the affected person feels like they will never be the same. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can occur after a traumatic experience like combat, abuse, or a disaster. It is when you are still haunted by the traumatic event, even though you are no longer in the traumatic situation.
Life can seem to have taken on a feeling of numbness and heightened danger. Common events such as a loud noise or the quiet of the night can cause flashback and the feelings of severe danger. The resulting emotional and physical distress can lead to feelings of isolation, and stressful relationships between the person experiencing trauma and the people around them. IFS trauma therapy can help survivors be self compassionate and understanding of the part of themselves that are still stuck in the past. Once we can understand those parts and bring them into the present, it will release the negative charge of rage, fear of danger and self criticism they may experience in response to trauma.
